• I already do UPRT, why do I need this course?
ICAO Doc 10011 recommends three components to UPRT: Academics, Simulation and On-aircraft training as the ultimate solution. Our course not only adds the important final component of on-aircraft training, but also allows you to practice recoveries in the real world in a totally immersive environment. Simulators cannot replicate the startle, the G-loads and the realism that UPRT on-aircraft can provide. It is important to understand that this course is not a replacement for the UPRT you receive from your operator, it is a critical supplement.
• The aircraft has totally different handling characteristics to the aircraft I fly - is it relevant or negative learning?
Whilst the performance and handling of the aircraft is very different to a commercial aircraft, the principles remain the same. We limit the recoveries to not only the G-load limits of your aircraft, but also to roll rates that you will be used to. So whilst the aircraft capabilities are unrealistic to compare to a transport category aircraft, the recoveries are the same, and so any negative learning potentials are neutralised.
• What is the timing of the course?
We understand that rosters are busy and time is valuable, so one day is all you need for this consolidation course. Start time is 0800 and we aim to be completed by 1600. This allows this course to be completed on a layover if necessary!
• Can I use what I have already learned in my previous training?
Yes! This is not a replacement course, but a supplement and will enhance your current UPRT program. Recovery techniques vary from type to type, but our aircraft allows you to use those techniques in total safety. Your instructors have a solid understanding of airline UPRT programs and so are able to adapt to your knowledge and techniques accordingly.
• How many trainees per course?
Maximum of two per day. We are happy to run courses on a one-on-one basis, but it's always more fun with your friends!
